From 1909, he was assigned to General Baquedano’s Hunter Regiment. In 1911, he held high adjutantships, a position that was granted to officers who demonstrated sound judgment and military virtues.
During his tenure in the Cazadores Regiment, he was called by the military superiority, at the request of the Government, to assume the position of director of the Carabineros School. He left this position in 1919, after being assigned as prefect of the Iquique Police.
He joined the Military Committee, formed by some of the officers who appeared before the National Congress, as well as Generals Luis Altamirano – in his capacity as Alessandri’s Minister of the Interior – and Pedro Pablo Dartnell. The uniformed officers met with the President in La Moneda to present him with a series of petitions in relation to the passing of bills that remained pending in Congress, such as the one that fixed the working day at eight hours, the one that limited female and child labor, the one that created the Labor Inspectorate, the one that established mandatory insurance against accidents and compensation for these, the one that created the conciliation and arbitration tribunals, among others. The President promised to seek a solution on the condition that they would return to their barracks.

The Court may order the reopening of the debate if it is necessary to receive new evidence or to expand on the evidence that has already been incorporated. The discussion will be limited, then, to the examination of the new elements of appreciation.
